This is the second of three katanas I have chosen to remake from my personal collection of authentic Nihonto katanas.

Only one of this exact katana will ever be recreated, making it a 100% singular, unique, and rare collectible.

Materials & Craftsmanship:

  • Blade Materials:
    Hocho-Tetsu (very low carbon steel)
Tamahagane (unique formula by Tōkō Mutukensi, combining charcoal, wet oil sand, various irons, and high-carbon powders)
    Abe-Gane (wrought iron)
    Ryuseito (meteorite iron)
  • Saya (Scabbard): Japanese cherry wood with Ishimeji stone finish, sealed with Urushi tree lacquer, hand-painted using traditional Nihonga techniques with natural crushed lapis and nikawa binder.
  • Tsuka (Handle): Ebony wood wrapped in ray skin, adorned with real mother-of-pearl inlays.
  • Tsuba (Guard): Hand-carved copper and silver.
  • Habaki (Blade Collar): Raw copper, smelted into billet and hand-forged.
  • Sori (Curve): 1.8 cm

Traditional Crafting Process:

  • Traditional Yaki-Ire hardening using natural clay, charcoal, and rainwater for tempering and quenching.
  • Blade quenched in water following authentic Nihonto techniques.
  • Hardness rating (HRC): 56–60.
  • Entirely handmade by hand — no power hammers, presses, grinders, or power tools used at any stage.
  • Forged exclusively in a coal kiln fueled by 100-year-old antique softwood recycled from old furniture and barrels.
  • Charcoal production involves careful tending of the kiln until the smoke changes color, followed by sealed cooling, chopping, and sorting of charcoal for bladesmithing and heat treatment.

Crafting Detail:

Every step of the forging, quenching, tempering, grinding, sharpening, polishing, and finishing process is done personally by me using traditional Nihonto hand tools and hammers. The result is an authentic, museum-quality katana that honors centuries-old craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

Production time for this singular katana is approximately 6–8 months.

This katana is not just a weapon but a living legacy, reflecting the deep tradition and artistry of Japanese swordsmithing passed down through generations.
