What is San Mai?

San mai is a Japanese steel construction technique that uses three layers of steel to create a knife blade: 

San mai: The name translates to "three flat things" in Japanese. 

Construction: A hard steel core is sandwiched between two layers of softer steel. The layers are forge-welded together. 

Purpose: The harder steel core provides edge retention and sharpness, while the softer steel layers make the blade more durable and less likely to chip or break

CPM-3V comprises of three layers of expertly laminated stainless steel combined in one blade. Hard carbon steel is sandwiched between two layers of tough lower carbon spring steel, thus maximizing edge holding ability while still being able to withstand impact and lateral stresses. 

The San Mail Technique is used on only Raven's most collectible and most exclusive high-end blades. Such as the Exclusive Custom Limited Pocketknife Series.

Each Knife is very ergonomic, that produces a extraordinary good grip. Being made of high end Stainless Steel this knife is very easy to sharpen, and gives the knife a very razor sharp edge.

These Knives are 100% entirely handmade and very unique. The Patterns will differ from what is seen in the picture, as you absolutely can not replicate the exact same pattern of Damascus.
